About State Farm Original Score Contest Texas State
Farm agents, in a new partnership with Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA)
presents the 2010 State Farm Original Score Contest. The contest
is open to all students enrolled in a Texas public or private high school music
program. The goal of
the program is to give educators and students a unique, engaging and valuable
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) - based learning experience and award
high school music programs for excellence in musical collaboration, creativity
and performance. State Farm
has committed $100,000 to be awarded to Texas high school music programs. Music
educators are asked to lead students in a project in which they will - -
Compose an Original Score that reflects something great about Texas. -
Bring together an ensemble of student musicians to perform the
composition -
Post the Audio or Video production online at OriginalScoreContest.com. Winning
ensembles will be selected based on scores received from a panel of third-party
adjudicators and online voting. A complete outline of judging criteria and process will be available at OriginalScoreContest.com and in the official Original Score Contest participation packet available after March 16th, 2010.
The
competition is structured to benefit public and private high school music
programs in all classifications and offer equal awards within two competition
groups. High schools
within 4A and 5A divisions will compete and high schools within 1A – 3A
divisions will compete separately with awards being distributed equally among
small and large school programs. The grand-prize
winner in each classification group will receive $25,000 for their music / fine
arts program – two (2) $25,000 awards will be given for a total of $50,000. The
second-place winner in each classification group will receive $15,000 for their
music / fine arts program – two (2) $15,000 awards will be given for a total of
$30,000. Twenty (20)
honorable-mention winners in each classification group will receive a $500
award for their music / fine arts department. Up to $20,000 will be shared
among 40 schools. In total,
State Farm will award $100,000 to Texas high school music programs to be utilized
at the discretion of the high school music / fine arts director. State

years, the State Farm Texas Scholar Athlete Program has granted over $212,000
in scholarships to Texas high school seniors. State Farm
funds The Character Network, a
proactive bully prevention program for elementary schools and a drop out
prevention program for middle and high schools. State Farm
supports the Texas Interscholastic
League Foundation (TILF) and has contributed $150,000 toward the TILF
scholarship fund. This fund is awarded
to teens that exhibit academic excellence and have participated in a UIL academic
state meet during their high school career. State Farm
has committed $500,000 toward the Texas Transportation Institute for the Teens In the Driver's Seat program. This program is designed to raise risk
awareness levels among teens and lower the occurrence level and severity of
teen driving accidents. State Farm
has committed $100,000 toward Texas high school music education programs
through a new partnership with Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). The 2010 State
Farm Original Score Contest encourages collaboration among music educators,
music students and other fine arts departments.
